My husband is currently in jail for another year. He has now been sober for almost 2 years. I do have some concerns when he gets out but I think he is finally done with drugs. I worry about some of the influnces when he returns and the temptations.
John was on tour for the bettter part of his 44 years. He has done more than his share and I hope the addcition is finally done with him.
We live in Saratoga Springs, NY down the road from SPAC.
I am in hopes when he returns we can find him some wharfs rats to hang out with once in awhile.
Peace to all

every so often I'll power slam a 12 pack at home, but this medical pot is really out of control. It like a roller coaster w/o seeds. Causing more crime in California every year.
I don't like it when they fool Mother Nature.
So I am semi- viceless....
Regular meeting show a bad side w/ other habit. Some folks just have drug addict behavior. This month I was SOBER. _________________ dude, did I scream ? |

Hey Sugarmagnolia!
I'm sorry to hear that your husband has another year to go. Some facilities have AA and NA meetings available for the inmates. If they have them where he is, encourage him to attend and make the best of the time he has left. I got clean and sober at 44 myself. It's been a great ride! Get him a copy of the AA "Big Book" and have him start reading.
When he gets out I'd be glad to speak with him. It's cool to talk to someone who has been there, done that and is not judgemental. If you'd like you can leave me a message here, and I'll give you my phone number. I'm a New Yorker as well.
Keep the faith,

After a close call with a near DUI on my part a couple of weeks ago I have been trying to live a little more sober. I've always admired the Wharf Rats and what they bring the dead scene.
I'll be heading to a Show this Sat and it will be the first time I've been to concert sober in a long time. I plan to stay sober the entire evening. Which isn't easy for me but I know I can do it.
It's just no longer worth it for me to drink and drive. One day I hope to become a Wharf Rat fully. But not until I'm a little older. |

Good for you, man.
Not a WR myself, although I no longer imbibe, thanks to about 2 years of AA, and my higher power. You can make it if you try.
Peace. _________________ Shine your shoes, light your fuse

Well it will be almost 1 year since I last posted (Dec 16, 2008) at that time I thought my husband only has one more year in a NY correctional facility but alas he did not make the parole board. (large sigh) He now has 16 more months then he will be home. What a long strange trip it's been.
My reason for the reply however is that my husband has remained sober yet another year and I am VERY proud of him!!!!!!!
I no longer feel there is as much of an issue of him going back to the life consumed by drugs like I did a year ago when I first posted. I know it will be something he will have to work on daily when he finally gets out the temptations will always be there but I have a lot more confidence he will make it!
There are as much drugs in the NYS Prison system are there are on the streets he is always surrounded by temptation but he remains strong!
He has participated in a few programs while incarcerated but I must say I am not sure it is the programs that have helped him as much as he made a decsion he was done with drugs. He made this decision early on in this prison bid and continues onward.
For all of your who struggle know you are not alone in this and I have my fingers crossed for you too!
Peace to All

Hey Sue!
I'm really glad that your husband has stayed clean and sober over the past year. It's easier to stay sober than it is to get sober. The more removed you are from drugs, the less the insane compulsion gets. You're both in my prayers, however, I'll bet he'll be just fine.
All the best,
